Update: FUNdrive Spring 2020 … rescheduled to Summer 2020!

CTF has partnered with Value Village to run a fundraising clothing drive called FUNdrive.

We had originally scheduled a delivery dated for April 24, 2020 but due to the Covid-19 concerns we have postponed until Summer 2020.

How does it work? We collect the clothing and small household items and donate it to Value Village. In exchange, they will pay CTF per pound. The money raised from this FUNdrive will go directly towards operating costs of the Community Transformation Program. Check back here soon for more details!

We are collecting…

  • Gently worn clothing with no stains, rips or broken buttons/zippers
  • Small kitchen & bathroom appliances and accessories
  • Children’s gently used toys (indoor/outdoor)
  • Please no books or magazines

We are gathering items in a storage unit, please contact us for details.

Thank you to all those who are volunteering to donate items, store items, pick up and deliver! This great initiative is going to be a great success because of YOU!

Don’t have clothing to donate? But you want to contribute?

100% of money raised through fundraising is used for charitable purposes, offering programs & services to individuals and families free of charge. We run a crisis phone line, operate FB support groups, and publish courses in transformation. Help keep this important work moving forward by making a donation today.

Food Package Delivered During Covid-19 Self-Isolation Crisis

Burnaby, B.C. – On Wed. March 18, 2020, a CTF volunteer found a call for help on a local FB page for updates on the Covid-19 crisis in Vancouver area. A man in his 30s wrote that he’s had a cough so he hasn’t been able to work, that he has run out of food, and it was later learned he has no family nearby. The CTF volunteer responded to the man asking what he needs and then sent out an email to a group of friends and a faith group, who responded. They were asking how they could help.

By Friday a care package with non-perishable food items as well as some fresh fruits, veggies, eggs & bread were collected, along with a generous monetary donation, which could buy specific items the man needed.

The package was delivered on Friday afternoon and over the following weekend donations continued coming in, making it possible to bring another food package as well. The man has been tested for Covid-19 and is awaiting results, which he reports can take between a week or two. In the meantime, he has some basic food supplies to help him through this health & financial crisis.

CTF would like to thank the volunteers who arranged for this delivery and also the members of the Baha’i Faith who contributed to this thoughtful & much needed care package.

These are some of the ways CTF reaches out to support community members in need during times of crisis.

The man who received the care package wrote in a text, ” I appreciate this more than you know.”

During this global pandemic, while people are being encouraged to keep a physical distance from one another, it is heart-warming to see neighbours coming together to help one another.

CTF Volunteers Respond to Family in Need

On March 06, 2020, a family reached out to CTF describing a financial challenge. The father, J.C. we’ll call him, said his newborn needed diapers & wipes. When a CTF volunteer asked for more information, we found the family was also in need of some food and other personal hygiene supplies. That’s when our Community Outreach Worker got busy pulling in some resources for this new family.

Our volunteer contacted the London Ontario Giving Tree group on Facebook and shared an anonymous post asking for help with diapers & wipes. Someone was so kind and generously donated some toiletries, a whole bunch of grocery items and $100 towards diapers, wipes & other grocery items.

Our volunteer arranged pick up with the donor and gathered the supplies and then delivered them to the CTF family in need.

We received a thank you message from the family later that evening, expressing their gratitude and what a difference CTF had made for them that day.

We are very happy to help in anyway we can and are so glad we could be there for this new family. CTF is sending an extra special THANK YOU to its volunteer who helped make this happen today. Without our volunteers, and their generous gift of their time, CTF could not do what it does to help families and build community!

PROGRESS: CTF Takes Great Strides

Since our inception in November 2017, we have grown from having two clients to now having more than 60 clients. Additionally, we now connect with family, friends and loved ones who are supporting the someone close to them who has been incarcerated.

We started out in Maplehurst Correctional Center but now connect with inmates in detention centers, treatment centers and penitentiaries from Canada’s East Coast to West Coast.

When we were incorporated on July 01, 2019 we had four working board members. We now have added an Advisory Council, a Media team, a crisis phone line & correspondence team and a parent’s group.

We’re working with inmates who cross the spectrum from minor driving infractions and minor theft charges, to inmates with weapons & drug possession charges, robbery, arson, criminal assault, child & human trafficking, attempted murder and first degree murder.

Inmates we work with show willingness to reflect on their lives, are open to transformation, and have a desire to create a more positive future for themselves.

We have offered some unique services in the past year, such as providing a daily newspaper to a range where many CTF clients resided. We have also made lawyer and phone service referrals. We have submitted three character references to inmates which were used in their trials to demonstrate the positive response to our programs & services.

We are now four months away from the end of our first fiscal year and are very excited about the new opportunities opening up every day. We are welcoming new volunteers, new members, and new business partnerships.

Our new website is just one example of the ways our nonprofit is growing and I am looking forward to sharing more and more encouraging developments as we move through the next few months and years.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the volunteers, family members, inmates, lawyers, medical teams, accountants and business owners whose continuous support helped CTF navigate its beginning years. We planted seeds which are now growing into wonderful gardens and the fruit of our efforts is abundantly clear.

300+ Books Collected for Jail Library

In Summer 2019, because of the effort of our volunteers and the generous donations from our sponsors, we were able to collect more than 300 books to donate to a women’s jail in London, Ontario. We were passionate about this initiative because many inmates say reading helps pass the time. In fact, many say they haven’t read a book in years but now that they are in jail they read about one a week. That’s when it occurred to us at CTF that we have a great opportunity here to get excellent materials to inmates. The more we enrich the jails libraries, the more personal growth and education can expand for the inmates. We’d like to continue this Book Drive initiative again next year. All those outdated jail libraries, with books published in 1984, can look forward to seeing more and more of us as the months and years go on.
